Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile Court is in many respects a hybrid between criminal Court and Family Court. Most charges are tried under the laws and evidentiary rules of criminal court, but the child is sentenced with consideration given to the best interests of the child along with other factors. However, sometimes the Prosecutor’s Office may seek to try a minor as an adult in Criminal Court. In this case a Special Hearing called a “Waiver” is held.
